Log Cabin Quilt-as-you-go Quilt

Saturday 20th May and 17th June – Afternoons

2 Afternoons – 20/05/23 and 17/06/23   2pm- 4:30pm

Tutor – Catriona Brown

This class encompasses two complementary techniques over two morning sessions. On the first morning we’ll cut our fabric into strips and backing squares and start working out our fabric layout. We’ll then learn how to stitch a log cabin directly onto our wadding and backing fabric and prepare the resulting block to be joined. You’ll have 4 weeks of homework time to get all the blocks needed for your chosen quilt size completed. In the second class we’ll learn how to join our blocks together using a quilt as you go method, depending on the size of your quilt we may also have time to start binding it. I’ve designed the block to be 14” finished and you can make any size of quilt you like. We’ll provide fabric quantity guidance per block and for 3 different sizes of quilt, 28”x42”, 56”x56” and 84”x84”.

This is an interesting and different technique that makes a relatively quick quilt and removes the stress of layering and quilting. Bring your sewing machine, fabric (exact amounts will be sent with your order confirmation), wadding and basic sewing kit. Sewing machines are available on request.

This is a great class for quilters of all levels but you must be familiar with using a rotary cutter, ruler and mat to cut fabric as well as being able to use a sewing machine.
