Journey to the Centre of the Earth Quilt with Jo Avery
Sunday 24th October – full day 10.30am – 4pm
Tutor: Jo Avery
Explore Jo’s Freehand Foundation Piecing technique and break all the rules in this skills-based workshop.
Have you tried Foundation Paper Piecing and found it too restrictive? Would you like to free yourself from the tyranny of accuracy?
This workshop uses FPP techniques but offers unlimited freedom to be creative and spontaneous. You will be drawing up your own Journey to the Centre of the Earth quarter blocks on a foundation fabric before piecing the more intricate sections.
Jo will be sharing ideas for 8 – 10
different freehand patterns for the curved sections including flying geese, spikes and wedges. After some wonky improv curves, you’ll be adding needle turn applique details using organic freely cut shapes.
You will hopefully finish a quarter block by the end of the workshop which can be used as a stand-alone block (measuring 18″) or you can make three more after the class to create a full Earth. A machine sewing class suitable for intermediate students.
