Irish Chain Quilt
2 Saturday Mornings – 16/10/21 and 06/11/21 10.30am – 1.30pm
Tutor – Catriona Brown
We’ll be learning how to make this visually effective, strip pieced quilt over the course of two half days. We’ll send you detailed instructions on cutting your fabric beforehand then work on arranging your cut strips into sets and sewing them together on the first morning. You’ll have 3 weeks of homework time to finish sewing your strip sets. In the second class we’ll cut up our strip sets, rearrange them into 2 styles of blocks and start sewing them back together. This quilt is designed so every seam can nest, making it easy to sew beautifully neat squares. The quilt top I’ve made and photographed is approximately 50”x50” but there will also be instructions and fabric requirements for 50”x70” and 70”x70” options.
This is a great class for intermediate quilters, it requires accurate cutting, sewing and pressing skills. It’s an interesting look at the technique of strip piecing and makes a stunning quilt! It’s been designed to work with our Fat Eighth bundles but would also be good for using up larger scraps. Bring your sewing machine, cut fabric (exact amounts and instructions will be sent with your order confirmation) and basic sewing kit. Sewing machines are available on request.
