Introduction to EPP (Pincushion) Friday 16th July and 6th August – Mornings

2 Mornings – 16/07/21 and 06/08/21 10.30am – 1pm

Tutor – Catriona Brown

Learn the traditional patchwork technique of English Paper Piecing! This is a relaxing and meditative technique that is done entirely by hand. We will be making a pincushion using the technique as there is very little difference between making a flat section and a 3D object, a pincushion means that you get a beautiful finished piece without too many pieces required. We will start in the first half day by discussing fussy cutting then cutting out our fabric and basting it onto the cardboard templates. We will then start sewing our pieces together. There are 3 weeks between the classes for you to sew more seams as homework with the aim that we’ll finish up our pincushions together on the second morning class. There are two options for your pincushion, a dodecahedron made from 12 pentagons or a cuboctahedron made from 6 squares and 8 triangles. All paper pieces are included.

By the end of the class you will have learned how to English Paper Piece and have a completed or nearly completed pincushion. There will be plenty of discussion of other patterns and advice on your next project if desired. This class is suitable for beginners.
