Improv Feather Quilt – Tuesday 24th October to 21st November – Evenings

£75.00

Improv Feather Quilt

4 Tuesday Evenings 7-9pm – 24/10/23, 31/10/23, 14/11/23 and 21/11/23

Tutor – Catriona Brown

This class will teach you to make a 40” (100cm) tall feather with beautiful improv piecing and appliqué it onto a background fabric. Guidance will be provided on making a wall hanging, a variety of quilt sizes and appliquéing feathers onto an existing Duvet Cover.
During the first two evenings in this course we will explore a variety of Improv and some Seminole Patchwork techniques to allow us to create a variety of different pieced strips of fabric. We’ll discuss collating a collection of strips to use for your feathers. In the third class we’ll piece the sides of the feather and learn how to create ‘nicks’ in the edge. In the fourth class we’ll assemble our feather and appliqué it onto our background of choice. If you are making a wall hanging with a single feather you should get most of it done during the class with a bit of homework time. If you want to make multiple feathers you’ll need to devote much more time to it at home!
Sewing machine experience is necessary, and experience using a rotary cutter would be helpful. This project is suitable for a range of abilities, it’s mostly about playing with pattern and colour and you can feel free to skip any improv techniques you don’t like!
Bring your sewing machine, basic sewing kit and fabric – this project works best with scraps but a selection of fat eighths or fat quarters would work as well. (More details will be sent with your order confirmation). Sewing machines are available on request.
